A Tribute to Kurt

I really wish that I could have met him, or at least made it to a Nirvana concert. From all accounts, he was a very kind, good man, a good father, very creative, and very funny. He was a great visual artist and songwriter. We both had very similar tastes in music. Oh, and the rock scream, so awesome! Even the way he dressed set off fashion trends. He didn’t have a rock star ego. What you saw was what you got. We were very close to the same age, and on his short time on this earth, he accomplished a lot. He felt compelled to create, often expressing himself with either visual art or writing songs. He believed in practicing frequently and passionately.

When I began writing the book now titled Abyss of the Fallen, I knew very little about Kurt Cobain. I knew that he was in the group Nirvana, I recognized some of the songs, but I knew almost nothing about him as a person. It’s unexplainable yet unavoidable that there are so many similarities between my character and Kurt. It was my daughter who first made that connection, I didn’t. After she told me, I had to know more, so I checked out some Nirvana cds from the library, as well as most of the books on Kurt. I ended up owning all of the albums and most of the books eventually. Speaking of good books, Charles R. Cross, who knew Kurt, wrote a phenomenal series of books honoring him.
